Role Purpose:


The VP of Hyper Discount is responsible for Leading the implementing & eventual general management of the new Hyper Discount Model MAFR KSA, which will be a completely ‘separated’ business from current Retail (separate legal entity, separate operating model, separate operating systems). This role will be responsible for the commercial strategy for the entire country ensuring sustainable growth in revenue and profit. The role holder is also responsible for developing and ensuring synergies between the different functions within the business.  This role is also reporting to all possible shareholders and/or partners related to the business.


Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


Commercial Operations

• Oversee the establishment of a competitive assortment offer on a continuous basis focusing on tactical and opportunistic buying.

• Direct and ensure implementation of an effective commercial model based on the input from competition, international product availability, and consumer insights.

• Oversee comparative studies of the hyper-discount model between competitors and working models in other countries that can contribute to the efficiency of the new commercial concept

• Build a strong B2B capability focusing on negotiation and sales.


Strategic Planning and Implementation

• Develop and implement a country wide strategy for the hyper-discount model inclusive of commercial, operations & people.

• Measure the performance of the implemented strategies on a quarterly basis and ensure that corrective actions are implemented if required.

• Analyse the current and future market situation in the country, identifying risks and opportunities for the business and propose actions.

• Turn the strategy into short and long term business plans and goals.

Policies and Procedures

• Own the Policies and Procedures, their development, and their implementation across the organization.

• Create a Standard Management system for all operations within the organization as well as mapping out major processes.

Financial Control

• Ensure all Business Strategies of Operations & Growth are based on continuous profit generation

•  Identify risks to the profitability of the model on a continuous basis

•  Ensure all design and expansion plans are based on a cost-based model to ensure profitability

•  Review financial performance of all stores and provide recommendations to improve business results

•  Plan and manage the operational and capital budgets for the entire business ensuring compliance with all laws & regulations.

Communication & Marketing

•  Build strong relationships with local authorities, business leaders and related community entities to enhance the image of Hyper Discount and support smooth business transactions

•  Share information on best practices with management team for testing & implementation in stores

• Ensure effective and smooth collaboration with all shared service functions, and shared resources with MAFR, to gain their support and input to improve the overall efficiency and performance

• Oversee the communication between Head Office & Stores to ensure business continuity

•  Partner with all  the executives to ensure business decisions are consistent with policies and procedures, corporate culture, values and philosophies

•   Ensure regular coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders in MAF Holding MAF Retail


Human Capital Responsibilities

• Oversee the implementation of the new Operating model and work with MAFR at the start to implement all Human Capital Processes, Policies & Systems.

•              Leverage on MAFR RBS to ensure tailor made training programs for Hyper Discount

•              Oversee the initial staffing and recruitment of the HQ and First Store

•              Ensure the implementation of Performance Management Systems and ensure they are linked to business performance and Total Rewards.

•              Exposed to various retail and discount model businesses internationally

•              Proven track record in running or establishing discount retail models

•              Very Strong ‘Commercial’ knowledge & experience

•              Very strong Leadership & People Management Skills

•              Strong Organizational & Prioritization Skills


Qualification, Experience & Skills:

Minimum Qualifications/education

•  Bachelor Degree required, MBA is a preference

Minimum experience

• 18+ years' experience in retail the sector, operational businesses and Sales inclusive of experience in Logistics & Supply Chain


•   High level skills in General Management

•   Strategic thinking and the ability to translate strategies into effective delivery models and plans

•   Strong negotiation and presentation skills

•   Reporting skills to highlight and summarize findings
