Role Description:

  • Division / Department: West Region Shopping Malls – Legal
  • Reporting to: Managing Director -West Region
  • Level: Senior Manager

Role Purpose:

The position is mainly responsible to lead the Legal function in Egypt.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 

  1. Provide comprehensive legal support across SMBU & Corporate in Egypt.
  2. Work in close coordination with functional/ business heads on all matters relating to SMBU & Corporate and provide timely advice and support to all relevant executives to achieve business objectives in compliance with the relevant legal requirements of the country.
  3. Conduct legal research and due diligence on all aspects of SMBU & Corporate business activities across Egypt.
  4. Handle, as required, representation of SMBU & Corporate in tenant and other third-party negotiations.
  5. Pro-actively implement key strategic legal and other initiatives and projects related to SMBU Egypt. This includes playing a proactive role in implementation and control of the processes.
  6. Attend to West Region Leadership meetings and advise on legal issues when required.
  7.  Conduct legal workshops and training sessions to Coach & improve the legal awareness of each of SMBU’s Departments in the context of their businesses.
  8. Pro-actively get involved in new business/transactions/acquisitions alongside the Managing Director and in coordination with the Senior Legal Counsel, Legal, Shopping Malls.
  9. Manage external legal counsel within the Corporate Legal Framework and provide necessary support, assistance and advice in relation to SMBU & Corporate business.
  10. Advise on all complex and other legal matters and playing a role of risk mitigation and prevention of disputes with contractors and consultants and other third parties in relation to SMBU & Corporate business.
  11. Advise on litigation of all types facing MAFP Egypt before judicial and arbitral authorities in every jurisdiction and providing recommendations to the SMBU & Corporate on the appropriate steps to be taken, and implementation thereof.
  12. Provide legal advice and support to Human Resources and IT Departments of MAFP on a variety of matters in relation to Egypt
  13. Ensure compliance with the MAFP SMBU’s Code of Conduct, Departmental policies and HC Policies and Procedures at all times.
  14. Be the advocate and ambassador of aligning and cascading the MAFP values in the assigned area of responsibility and ensure that relevant team adhered to and exhibit the same all the time.
  15. Build the capability of staff reporting into by providing on time regular feedback including annual review on performance and identify areas of improvement / reinforcement for further development.
  16. Manage, guide and mentor the team reporting into and take full responsibility in identifying potential talent and timely supporting professional development.

Personal Characteristics and Required Background:

Minimum Qualifications/education

  • Master’s degree in Law
  • Qualification in business studies / real estate management/ development would be an added advantage.

Minimum experience

  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive experience in a reputed Commercial Legal Firm or Real Estate Development company, preferably experience in shopping mall legal matters in Egypt in a similar role.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of relevant International /Local laws e.g. Corporate, Fiscal, Economic, Civil and Commercial.
