Roles Purpose:

Manager - Business Development (Country) is responsible for driving new business development projects for MAF Retail in order to achieve sustainable growth. The role holder is also responsible for preparing the overall plans and managing the local implementation of the MAF Retail strategy ensuring timely and proper implementation of assigned projects.

 

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

 

 

Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Support the executive team in the preparation of the market strategy on new developments
  • Evaluate and propose action plan to increase profitability and productivity
  • Evaluate local market and regional trends for the defined country
  • Perform competitor analysis and identify new business opportunities
  • Develop operational plans to ensure achievement of the retail expansion plan and targets set out
  • Work cross functionally with sales and marketing or related department, to turn “consumer needs” to actionable business development proposals
  • Provide inputs on expansion, leasing, procurement and asset management strategies, continuously looking into cost efficiency and guaranteeing set quality standards

Project Evaluation and Management

  • Interact with management on all steps leading to potential projects
  • Oversee and ensure sourcing of suitable locations in shopping malls or standalone locations in line with retail concepts
  • Ensure preparation of due diligence documents for prospective sites
  • Ensure the return of investment for developed projects by taking all pre-emptive measures based on best practices and take corrective measures if necessary
  • Participate in conducting feasibility studies to assess proposed initiatives
  • Oversee and ensure timely and proper execution of approved projects in line with set plans
  • Keep abreast of local/regional events which may likely impact the project success

Asset Management

  • Provide inputs for land and asset acquisitions suitable for retail projects when required
  • Approve agreements based on negotiations for land and supplies procurement and provide inputs on the best solutions when required
  • Direct and ensure procurement activities for required assets and materials are carried out in a timely, accurate and consistent manner
  • Ensure established contracts and agreements are competitive and minimize MAF Retail’s risk exposure

Relationship Management

  • Approve selected services providers, building companies and contractors, based on the set policies and procedures while assuring consideration planned budgets and timings
  • Support all government affairs meetings with high level authorities to ensure support in MAF Retail business activities when required
  • Maintain strong business relationships with key internal / external stakeholders to leverage business opportunities
  • Ensure regular coordination and communication with relevant stakeholders in MAF Retail

Communication and Reporting

  • Ensure continuous and smooth coordination between internal departments to ensure all activities are carried out in a timely, accurate and consistent manner
  • Create a network of contacts on the ground to supplement existing deals
  • Prepare reports on business development activity both upon request and on a regular basis

 

Qualification And Experience:

 

Minimum Qualifications/education

  • Bachelor Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
  • MBA in the same field preferred

Minimum experience

  • 12+ years' in business development, 5+ years in retail industry
