Role Purpose:

The Legal Director will be responsible for overseeing and managing all legal matters related to supply chain, sourcing and procurement. He/She will be responsible for the drafting, review and negotiation as well as providing strategic legal guidance and support to the commercial, sourcing and supply chain teams. Also, will ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards especially compliance with competition law.

The role holder will also work closely with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to manage implementation of legal transformation strategy and projects.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Legal Business Partnering

  • Legal Business partnering to the MAFR Supply Chain, Procurement and Sourcing team.
  • Provide support in drafting, negotiating and reviewing agreements and legal advice on a variety of legal issues, including risk management, litigation, claims and dispute resolution related to Third Parties, suppliers, vendors, etc.
  • Draft and negotiate high value contracts with Third Parties, vendors, service providers and partners
  • Oversee procurement deals associated with a logistics network, including warehouse and facilities negotiations
  • Counsel on legal and regulatory developments in trade, import/export, logistics and supply chain and on Sustainability legal matters
  • Review drafted contracts, agreements and notifications as required in a timely manner and ensuring that they are compliant with internal standards and legal requirements
  • Advise on Supply Chain and Procurement compliance related matters especially matters related to competition law, including antitrust laws, competition regulations, and third-party due diligence
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to develop and implement strategies that minimize legal exposure

 

Legal Transformation

  • Champion legal transformation projects related to Supply Chain, sourcing and procurement especially automation, standardization, templatization, governance frameworks.
  • Develop and deliver legal and compliance training modules to the Commercial, Sourcing, Procurement and Supply Chain teams

Legal Policies and Procedures

  • Analyze current legal processes and systems to identify areas that require improvement
  • Develop a roadmap and implement changes that will improve legal processes and systems, which may involve coordinating with different teams or departments to ensure that the changes are properly integrated into existing systems
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to competition law compliance, including training and awareness programs for employees
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to supply chain and procurement, including supplier code of conduct, supplier performance evaluation, and vendor risk management
  • Review necessary law applications to protect the organization in conjunction with allowing for commercial advantages
  • Stay up-to-date with legal and regulatory developments in the areas of competition law, supply chain, and procurement, and advise the company on any changes that may impact its operations
  • Ensure internal legal process is followed and tasks are completed within the deadlines
  • Report any actions that might interfere with the operations of the company

Human Capital Responsibilities

  • Assist with the implementation of the performance management process by setting objectives, monitoring performance, and provide constructive feedback and provide inputs to senior management
  • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles
  • Provide inputs on training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
  • Mentor the legal team on corporate and country level by providing guidance and support on legal matters
  • Develop and implement on the job-training for the team
  • Ensure the implementation of company’s corporate policies and relevant procedures

Qualification, Experience & Skills:

Minimum Qualifications/education

  • Bachelor’s  Degree in Law

Minimum experience

  • A minimum of 15+ years of legal experience, preferably 4+ years in retail or FMCG experience
