The role of the Head of Production will be responsible for leading the strategic and business planning of projects alongside the relevant external partners. The Head of Production will deliver a strategy that supports the day to day management of productions, and longer-term objectives for growth and efficiency. This will include shaping and planning production activity, securing key rights and talent, managing financial and operational risk and driving business levels.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Strategy, Planning & Leadership

  • Leads the strategic and business planning for film production for Majid Al Futtaim Cinemas.
  • Leads the production changes required to deliver projects as per strategy of production efficiency targets.
  • Ensures best practice principles and protocols are implemented and adhered to and in line with internal policies and those as per project contracts.  
  • Jointly accountable with external stakeholders for driving efficient and effective deployment of approved technologies on productions.
  • Oversees assessment of the financial viability of content ideas, identifying and mitigating any risks.
  • Ensures appropriate financial support is provided by Finance on high financial risk/complex productions and/or across a portfolio of productions.
  • Develops and implements the operational and financial strategy linked to long-term content strategy while highlighting, balancing and mitigating areas of risk.
  • Monitors and reports on performance against objectives and key performance indicators.
  • Engages with partners and their staff in shaping and planning projects, championing rationale to ensure smooth deployment and adoption of production.
  • Supports other divisions (e.g. Technology, Procurement, and Property) with the development and implementation of their strategies.
  • Builds long term relationships with internal and external stakeholders and productive working relationships with team members and external contacts. Seeks opportunities for collaboration across the region with key partners and promotes a climate in which information and knowledge is openly shared.
  • Reviews scripts and discusses production ideas with producer and senior production employees.
  • Meets regularly with different production department heads, including costume, set design, and lighting, to ensure they are meeting the production budget and schedule.
  • Works very closely to comply with the requirements from the MAF Ventures -Risk and Compliance team on a regular basis.
  • Supervises production team, including its production assistants, production secretaries, production coordinator, and other production office staffers.
  • Handles any risk & compliance issues which arise during the production.
  • Strategizes production and postproduction plans for TV and film projects to ensure optimal finishing at the highest quality.
  • Working with the contracts team to ensure that deal negotiations are being handles efficiently


Shape and plan productions

  • Ensures commissioning requirements are fully understood to develop viable proposals.
  • Accountable for ensuring the price of each film project is agreed with commissioning and that complete delivery is feasible within the proposed timeframe.
  • Ensures the start of productions, ensuring resources and editorial aspirations are aligned.
  • Works closely with the finance to identify opportunities for commercial exploitation at an early stage and ensure the requirements of commercial investors are achievable. Accountable for highlighting any public service issues relating to commercial exploitation of content.
  • Accountable for consistency of approach in scheduling, budgeting and managing productions across the production base in line with relevant frameworks and requirements.
  • Responsible for planning and managing capacity (resources and people) in line with strategic objectives and commissions.


Manage media assets

  • Responsible for supporting the development of policy and guidelines relating to metadata and media assets.
  • Accountable for ensuring robust processes are in place throughout the production process for fully and accurately capturing and managing metadata in line MAF policies and procedure.
  • Ensures information and archives have the necessary information to efficiently manage, retain and delete media assets.

Definition of Success

Production of minimum of three films annually through the MBC/IN/MAF Partnership.

Willingness to travel (Regional and International travel required)

Performs any additional adhoc duties as and when required by the Line Manager and/or Head of Department.

Minimum experience

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience within pre-production post and delivery.
  • Proven experience of effective participation in major film production projects and experience of running portfolios of projects; experience of managing dependencies and trade-offs between projects.
  • Considerable experience of long-term planning and leading people, teams and resources around complex schedules and budgets.
  • Proven business planning skills - able to develop and manage major business cases and associated budgets.
  • Experience of leading large and diverse teams across a broad range of output and locations.
  • Proven experience of developing and successfully implementing strategy.
  • Experience of leading change across a large production base
  • Experience of managing co-productions and/or complex rights and funding models.

Minimum Qualifications/education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Economics
  • MBA Preferred
  • Extensive experience of managing and monitoring Health & Safety, supported by recognized formal Health & Safety training (including Risk Assessment).
