Role Purpose

The Head of Business Development – Expansion is responsible for the implementation of the expansion plan in new, emerging and mature countries and identification of new market opportunities in order to achieve the MAF Retail growth targets. The role holder is also responsible for ensuring all assigned projects are completed on time and in line with budget and assist in identifying, classifying and selecting locations included in the expansion plan.

Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Expansion Planning and Implementation

  • Manage and ensure effective planning and implementation of the expansion plans based on the strategy and objectives defined
  • Assist in identifying and classifying countries included in the expansion plan based on maturity and propose action plans accordingly
  • Identify and propose sites for the opening of new stores/shopping mall within the overall expansion plan  
  • Perform feasibility studies including partner alliances to ensure success of new markets including legal, government regulations and the business set up process
  • Identify and propose new retail site locations and participate in negotiating the terms of lease
  • Assist in developing and implementing the strategy for country development programs
  • Evaluate local market and regional trends of defined countries
  • Perform competitor analysis and identify new business opportunities

Project Management

  • Monitor projects and teams and ensure proper execution and completion in a timely manner and in line with set plans and budget while ensuring efficient utilization of resources
  • Conduct regular reviews and monitor actual performance against set plans and KPIs and provide regular reports to the management
  • Ensure smooth coordination with all internal departments and for the complete execution of the projects from inception to completion
  • Keep abreast of local/regional events which may likely impact the project success
  • Provide support to country teams for the evaluation and execution of the projects

Policy and Procedure

  • Evaluate and propose action plans to increase profitability and productivity

Reporting

  • Prepare periodical business reports to inform management about the current status of planned or actual projects

Human Capital Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation of the performance management process
  • Provide mentorship for the purpose of developing a continuous talent pipeline for key roles
  • Identify training needs and coordinate with the HC department to ensure facilitation of training requirements
  • Oversee the development and implementation of on the job-training
  • Ensure constant availability of the required competent staff to support the organization in meeting all its responsibilities, plans, and objectives
  • Provide inputs while developing MAF Retail’s corporate policies and relevant procedures, and monitor the implementation

Minimum Qualifications/education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field
  • Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred

 Minimum experience

  • Minimum 8 years in the related managerial function
  • Preferably 2+ years in the retail business or closely related industry
