Role Purpose:

The GM of Operational Financial Control is responsible to develop and establish a reliable financial reporting system and tools in the assigned functional area for whole Majid Al Futtaim Retail which monitors the achievements of the organization's objectives and provides stakeholders with relevant financial data for the decision making process. Based on sound analysis of the provided data the Head of Operational Financial Control highlights risks and recommends solutions for improvement of the efficiency in order to support the overall growth plan. Training and development of the own team as well as other involved stakeholders is an important part of the role to ensure that best practices are shared and implemented within the organization.


Role Details – Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:



Financial control, business analysis and modelling:

  • Sourcing management (including international sourcing, supplier & range profitability and logistics process)
  • Marketing management (including promo channel performance)
  • Merchandise management (stock management & depreciation, private label)
  • Store financial control strategy
  • New projects (valuation, feasibility and capital budgeting)
  • Active participation in budget, forecast and strategic plan review in his area
  • Support to International Financial Control team for reporting development


Processes management:

  • Store financial control
  • Sourcing, marketing and merchandise financial control
  • New store appraisal process (supervision)


Databases and reporting Management:

  • Various benchmarking analyses and business KPIs.
  • Strategic audit of financial control processes
  • Development of tools for store and merchandise financial controllers


Audit and Reporting

  • Responsible for the preparation of business presentations and reports for various stakeholders periodic and ad hoc as and when required
  • Developing and conducting regular Workshops in the area of financial control development
  • Perform regular audit of various operational store parameters, prepare a report about required corrective actions and support the local team with solution proposal for improvement



  • The GM– Operational Financial Control will be communicating to Country Finance Teams and Country Merchandise Managers, Country Development Managers for exchange of information/reports/analyses on a regular basis
  • To Holding Treasury and Corporate Development internally for special projects as required and to third party consultants  externally for special projects as required
  • To stores for an audits purposes periodically
  • Communication with stakeholders on country level for financial control and business analysis to identify the required needs and to provide them with the necessary financial data

Qualification, Experience & Skills:


Minimum Qualifications/Education

  • Bachelor of Finance, Business Administration or Commerce
  • MBA in the same field advantage


Minimum Experience

  • Minimum 10 years in the related managerial function
  • Preferably 5+ years in the retail business or closely related industry




  • Knowledge of accounting concepts and some knowledge of IFRS
  • Knowledge of investment appraisal process and capital budgeting
  • Knowledge of operational finance including accounting for store operations,  merchandise movements and transactions, logistics operations, fixed assets and expenses
  • Good understanding of supplier negotiations: ways, approaches, terms
  • Good understanding of implications of the macro situation on the business
  • Modelling skills
  • Requires strong analytical and technical skills in financial analysis and reporting
  • Knowledge of advance analytics
  • Requires good teams and project management skills
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office, particularly modeling in Excel
  • Good presentation skills
  • English (Full professional proficiency - Required)
